AIDEN

The day after Carmel visited us I felt like standing outside every maternity hospital and handing out her business card to every new parent walking out with their baby and tell them to not hesitate to call Carmel the minute they had any sleep issues with their baby. That’s how impressed I was by the difference she made for us and our son Aiden. Calling Carmel was the best thing we have done for Aiden and for ourselves and I would have loved to have done it sooner.

Being a first time parent is bloody hard, and it’s okay to admit that. To add fuel to the baptism of fire you go through, the advice you are given by different people is conflicting and can make your confidence plummet like an emu flying off a cliff. You think to yourself how come other babies can sleep through the night and not cry constantly. I must be a really crap parent. You’re not, you just need someone with the expertise and genuine passion to make a difference – that’s Carmel.

Aiden suffered from colic and silent reflux for the first 3 months and needless to say this was difficult to deal with. But after that he seemed to get past it all and was crying less and had a sleep routine that included a number of short day naps, which required him to be rocked to sleep, and night sleeping of a 5-hour/3-hour block. One night-feed was manageable although my back was hurting from the rocking to sleep during the day. Then the nightmare fortnight happened at about 4-5 months. Aiden woke 3 times a night for 2 weeks in a row and then woke 4 times in the night and I had to tell my husband, Lorre, to stay home from work to look after both of us as I wasn’t in a fit state to look after Aiden safely. I was exhausted and could barely keep my eyes open. That’s when we said we can’t do this anymore and rang Carmel, who was referred to us by a mum in our mother’s group.

Carmel visited our house for 5-6 hours and by the time she left Aiden was able to fall asleep by himself. It was like magic and all it took was a few adjustments to how we put him to sleep. Of course Carmel knew exactly what Aiden needed. She also knew exactly what we needed. Carmel is an expert parent counsellor and distracter! She is also a very lovely person who is a natural and couldn’t be in a more suitable role.

It took 2-3 weeks to perfect, but Aiden now sleeps 11 hours through the night and has regular, longer day sleeps. He is a much happier baby who feeds better and cries much less. And for anyone worried about transitioning their baby to a new, independent way of sleeping, all I can say is Carmel makes it as easy as possible and you will realise in hindsight that your baby was worse off before having broken sleep and being reliant on you to fall asleep. And Carmel’s telephone support is fantastic and really helpful when you go solo.

Although I didn’t distribute her business cards at maternity hospitals, I raved and raved about what Carmel helped us achieve to everyone I knew who had a young baby. A couple of other babies in our mother’s group have since enjoyed the benefit of Carmel visiting and we laugh at our amazement at what Carmel does and say that we should get T-shirts for our babies that say “I’ve been Calm-elised”.

Aiden S-calm babies

AIDEN. S

When my little boy reached 5 months old and I was struggling with frequent night waking as he hadn’t yet learned to self-settle I decided I needed some help and fast!

The night-time settling was always the hardest, it could take an hour for him to get to sleep. I had succumbed to using a swing, rocking, patting, feeding, anything to get him to sleep. This was exhausting day in day out.

After looking online at many websites, sleep whisperers in Sydney were charging up to $3,000 to help with these issues, I couldn’t believe it. I felt that was over the top and decided to ask for recommendations.

My Cousin recommended Carmel from Calm Babies in Melbourne. I didn’t think she would be able to help me in Sydney but decided to call her anyway.

From the first conversation, Carmel was great to talk to and very understanding about the different parenting styles and knows all babies are different. We decided to go ahead with a 2-week programme via phone consults which was great news and very affordable too.

Within 2 days we had made significant changes to Aiden’s routine and by 2 weeks all my major problems were sorted. This really took the pressure off my partner and I, it has been the best thing I could have done for our family.

I highly recommend Carmel, she is very knowledgeable, easy to talk to, always answered the phone or rang back immediately and was extremely easy going and supportive throughout the whole 2-week program.

Thanks Carmel for everything

AIYANA

To dear Carmel, you are an earth angel.

Thank you so much for everything you have done for us, for Aiyana, for our little family.

Our 13 month old little girl was still napping on top of me during the day, slept in our bedroom at night, and got to the point of waking every 40 minutes or at least hourly because she had never learnt to self soothe.

We called Carmel after trying various attempts at what we considered everything! In a week we transitioned Aiyana in to her own bedroom, developed new sleeping techniques and now she is napping in her cot during the day right on cue without any fuss and most importantly sleeping through the night! Last night from 8pm to 7am!

I cannot explain the difference this has already made to me physically and emotionally. I’m getting some time to myself, I’m actually waking up in the morning instead of just putting one foot in front of the other and continuing on the next hour. I’ve got more energy to maintain my friendships and relationship. We get time to ourselves in the bedroom. But the biggest thing of all, Aiyana has started taking her first steps and is so much happier during the day because SHE is getting sleep and her mental development is progressing again.

Carmel, you are magic and I’m so grateful I heard about you from other beautiful mummas who also had such a positive experience. I’m so glad I actually asked for help. And I’m so in awe of your compassion and genuine support that you gave to me every hour at the beginning and now knowing whenever I need. Thank you.

ALANAH

When Alanah was born she was a small baby weighing only 2.5 kgs. I felt so blessed to have her. From the beginning she often would not settle in her cot. I would hold her in my arms to sleep or at night have her sleep upright on my chest. This worked for me in the first few months as it meant I could rest too while she slept. She was my first baby and I felt that it was not too much bother as long as she slept. As she got older though, the settling times became longer and I began to grow tired of the frequent night waking and constant resettling every time she woke. I began to fear sleep time and Alanah and I were grumpy due to the lack of sleep.

This pattern continued for some time until at 11 months Alanah (who was co-sleeping in my bed by this stage) accidently scratched my cornea in the middle of the night! I ended up in the emergency ward of our local hospital and I knew things had to change.

Carmel came into our home and showed us how we could ‘retrain’ Alanah into an independent sleeper who would sleep through the night. Carmel involved both my husband and I, and together we learnt many strategies to resettle Alanah, whilst still assuring her we were there for her.

Within 48 hours, Alanah was “cured”! She was having two day sleeps and would sleep happily in her cot from 7:30pm until 6:30am the next morning. It was life changing to say the least. I was getting a great nights sleep, my husband was happy because I was happy and best of all, Alanah was cheerful and playful during her awake times.
We felt so confident with ourselves as parents and went on to have two more gorgeous babies who turned out to be good sleepers because of the things that Carmel had taught us.
We would highly recommend that if you are having problems such as ours that you call Carmel. She has a lovely friendly persona and we never felt like she was lecturing us. It was the best investment we ever made.

Thank you so much Carmel.

With much appreciation,

– Josie

ALEXIS + ZANE

It’s been a year since we met Carmel. A whole year of my now 20 month old, daughter sleeping through the night! When Alexis was 8 months old, I was 6 months away from expecting our second baby. Alexis was still waking 5+ times overnight and fed back to sleep. Naps and bedtime were a constant battle EVERY SINGLE DAY. I was physically and mentally exhausted and so anxious thinking how I would cope with a newborn as well. With the months flying by before I became a Mum of 2 under 2, I knew I needed to have Alexis sleeping through.

I was recommended Carmel by a friend who had great success with her twins. Though I was skeptical at first, my daughter responded almost instantly to Carmel’s gentle sleep technique. It actually works! She taught us everything we needed to know and it was only a few weeks before Alexis was consistently sleeping through the night. It was the best thing we ever did for our family.
Her sleep and routine was no longer a worry pending my sons arrival. To have that stress taken away was INVALUABLE.

When my son Zane turned 4 months old, his sleep went pear shaped so we used Carmel’s telephone service for some refresher training and support. Now at almost 6 months, he settles for every sleep and the days of cat napping are gone.
Carmel, I honestly can’t put my gratitude into words! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

anne - calm babies

ANNE

I just wanted to send you an email to say thank you so much for your help with Anne.

We have gone from having a baby who would sleep 20-40 minutes each nap during the day and wake up crying, to a baby who now sleeps solidly for at least 1.5 and even 2 hour blocks for her naps, not to mention she will wake up chatting away and making happy sounds.

We have gone from relying on a dummy to settle and sleep to not even needing to use one. This was a total unexpected bonus from your visit and support – after trying twice before to (unsuccessfully) wean Anne off her dummy it’s like a switch was flipped and it was gone!

We have gone from having to rock and stand in the dark for hours during the day and again at night to get her to sleep to being able to put her down awake and know with confidence that she is drifting off to sleep all on her own with no fuss or tears.

We have gone from feeding overnight and complete uncertainty of when our days would start to having a baby who will sleep for 11-12 hours without making a peep and who will start her day at a human hour of between 6:30am – 7:00am, often needing a gentle wake up from us as she will still be snoozing soundly.

The difference in the way our days operate is remarkable, and nights? I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Your visit was worth every cent. The change in Anne and how happy she is, is amazing. She’s the smiliest baby I’ve ever seen!

When you said a couple of weeks ago that I would laugh at the thought of suggesting that maybe Anne just didn’t need more than 45 minutes sleep at a time, you were right. While we have an occasional bad day, who doesn’t? I know that tomorrow will be different and I have the knowledge I needed and the reassurance that new mothers so desperately need but often do not know where to look.

APRIL

If I could shout from the rooftops to help anyone that is experiencing even the slightest sleeping problem with their baby I would. I was blessed to be born with such an amazing baby. I would put her in her cot when she was little and off she would go to sleep. Even my sister was envious of me and I was pretty proud of my baby. At around 4 months things all changed for us. She started to cry when I would put her in her cot and she would need help to get to sleep? I had absolutely no idea how to help her because I didn’t ever need any settling techniques. My sister used Calm Babies and I had seen how amazing Carmel was with her baby, what a dramatic improvement. So her baby was now the angel and mine was the one needing help. My sister said to me that I should use Calm Babies but I was a bit hesitant thinking “I had this under control and I’m sure she would change back and get better again”. But no, this was not the case. Slowly but surely, more and more sleeps became harder and I was getting more and more stressed.

I also had done research and heard mothers experiencing problems with their night sleeps and thought I was being a bit of a Drama Queen asking for Carmel to come in and fix up a few sleeps in the day that weren’t working? April would sleep for shorter periods and then if she woke up midsleep I couldn’t get her back. Also, it took her more than 20 mins of grizzling to get her back to sleep. I tried to adapt the things that my sister had been told through Carmel but as ALL babies are different these didn’t seem to work. In the end I rang Carmel and we set up a time to come out.

So the time arrived and Carmel, who I might add was so personable and lovely and made my husband, baby and I feel so comfortable . Carmel explained to me that it was good that I called when I did, because as much as I only had issues with the day sleeps eventually night sleeps would be affected. Carmel stayed for most of the day and by the time she left I felt so much more confident and able to help April get back to sleep. I couldn’t believe it. I thought to myself I knew that this wouldn’t be a quick fix and that within a few weeks she would be sleeping ok. But I have to say it was like a magic wand was waved above the cot and the very next day there were remarkable improvements. We have still got a little bit of work to do but its only week 3 and April’s sleeps are about 95% successful. Carmel also had great tips and advice to give when we were out and about with the pram and how to get our baby to sleep outside of her environment.

It seriously is the BEST thing that I have ever done for my baby. We are all so much happier in our house now. If you’re even thinking about getting help i suggest you do it. The best thing money can buy is a happy mum and a happy bub.

ARCHER

Dear Carmel,

Ross and I can’t thank you enough! Archer is sleeping better each and every day and we no longer have the long screaming battle of a night when it is bed time. He is now settling into day sleeps and we no longer have an exhausted and overtired 8 week old!

Your passion and dedication to helping us and Archer is extraordinary and your willingness to take my numerous daily calls for reassurance is the best service anyone can offer. I have recommended you to a few girls in my mother’s group and will highly recommend you to anyone!! Babies and children should not have to suffer with sleeplessness and either should their parents!

Thanks,

ARI

Ari is a 5 months old. He was a boy that would only cat nap for 45 minutes during the day and woke irregularly at night no matter what we did. This was not sustainable as we were continuously stressed and exhausted. It was at a time of desperation when we contacted Carmel and have been so grateful we did especially after having another so called professional come into the home, who basically told me to do what ever works, despite explaining that nothing we did was working.

It was a relief to finally be given some advice that provided a plan of action and some very simple strategies that worked. Straight away there was a significant improvement as Ari joined two sleep cycles together and it only took one night of a few tears before we were sleeping from 7 pm till 5.30 am with a dream feed and no other wake ups in between.

What made the difference was that Carmel came over 2 feed, sleep periods and really confirmed what we already new about Ari, but showed us how to manage him in a way that worked for him. We now have a boy who is happy, rather than grumpy all the time and one who has 2-3 sleeps a day between 1.5 to 2 hours each and and night he sleeps from 7 pm to 6.30 am. He no longer cries when being put down and we can now even have some fun at bed time with smiles, nose kisses and tickling before we walk out of the room. He even wakes now and chats to himself until we come in rather than screaming the roof down. What a relief, I was really starting to dislike being a mother, but now I am loving it and I am loving spending time with my son. It has probably taken one and a half months to get to this stage but perseverance, consistency and having a set routine and structure around sleep has really worked for Ari. I don’t think we would have managed if it wasn’t for this support.

ARI A

I was hesitant to ring ‘Calm Babies’ as I didn’t want to hear my baby cry for hours whilst control crying (which is what I thought would happen).

I had a very unsettled 4 month old baby who was only sleeping after I rocked him for at least 45mins to 1 hour. We were also co-sleeping and I wanted to break the habit and have him sleep in his own room with minimal fuss and crying. I was sure the road to recovery was going to be hard. I was wrong.

I was pleasantly surprised with how down to earth, compassionate and understanding Carmel was. She could read my baby and ultimately interpret what he was ‘saying’. The best part was she taught me how to read the signs too and respond appropriately. I felt comfortable after she left as we kept in contact over the phone whenever I needed some reassurance or advice on settling techniques.

Within 72hrs Ari was a new ‘perfect’ sleeping baby. He now settles himself to sleep and there is no fuss or rocking in my arms. He even sleeps through the night!

IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE!! I didn’t think it was possible that I could have so much time during the day AND have my nights back with my husband. Ari is a much happier baby and I regret not ringing earlier.

I recommend Calm Babies to anyone who wants to establish good bedtime and sleeping patterns for the future.

Thank-you so much Carmel, you should change your name to ‘Angel’! You have seriously done what I thought was the impossible.

AUDREY

There are so many good things I can say about Carmel that I don’t even know where to begin…. She is absolutely AMAZING!! Since my daughter, Audrey was about 10 weeks old, she has helped us through so many issues from settling techniques to Audrey’s sleep needs and feeding needs, to naps transition, to advice being a first time mum, and so much more! She’s not just a Sleep Consultant to me, she has became my second partner in this motherhood journey. Audrey has not experienced any 4 & 8 month sleep regression, she slept through the night since before she turned 4 months old. Recently we have successfully transitioned her from 3 to 2 naps with no issues, and she slept very well even during teething time. Audrey is now 8.5 months old, she naps between 1.5 hours to nearly 2 hours twice a day, and sleeps through the night from 7.30pm to just before 7am. She is happy and alert when she’s awake and she is hitting all the development milestones. She always smile when we put her down for nap/sleep, absolutely amazing!!

Carmel, thank you for everything that you have done for me! Words cannot describe how grateful I am to you, for giving me back my freedom, identity, control, sleep & sanity, and also show me how to be flexible with Audrey’s schedule!

CHARLIE

Since he was born, Charlie’s daytime sleeps were never more than 40 minutes. He would have maybe 2 or 3 naps during the day and by bedtime he was exhausted – and so were we. When he was 6 months I called Calm Babies.

Carmel’s techniques helped us to extend his naps out so he was getting a total of 3 hours sleep during the day. On day 2, he did his first 2 hour daytime sleep! We were so pleased. When Charlie was 9 months we used the techniques Carmel gave us to drop his night time feed and after 3 days he was sleeping through the night – and so were we!

Thanks again Carmel, Jo & Charlie.

CHARLOTTE

My second baby was great for the first three months, we had her in the same routine we used for our first baby and she was sleeping well. Unfortunately she got sick with back to back illnesses for around three months and progressively “forgot” how to sleep.  By the age of nearly 6 months, she was only having one nap a day and was taking 40 minutes of patting to get only 40 minutes of sleep. Overnight, the pattern was horrifyingly the same, waking up every 40 minutes and taking around 40 minutes of settling to go back to sleep.  We were going crazy, this was our second child, we were supposed to know what we were doing but nothing was working. We looked into sleep schools but apart from the 3 month waiting list, it was all too hard with a 2 year old at home.  So, exhausted and desperate, I rang a few “mobile” sleep schools including Carmel from Calm Babies. I found Carmel by far the friendliest and the most helpful. She was incredibly understanding and spent quite a bit of time discussing my problem over the phone before arranging a time to come and help us in just a few days time.

Carmel and I arranged for a day visit, with Carmel being incredibly confident that one 4-5 hour visit would be enough to put Charlotte’s daytime sleeps on track which would fix her night time sleep. I was a bit sceptical at first and wanted to book Carmel in for a couple of sessions up front including an overnight session but Carmel was so confident that I agreed to see how we went after one session.

Carmel was great, she arrived on time and from the beginning was so kind and supportive about  what we had been through over the last 3 months and what we wanted to achieve going forward. She spent some time with Charlotte and then it was time for Charlotte’s morning nap. We put Charlotte in the cot, said goodnight and walked away. Then of course the crying started. Carmel sat with me and talked me through the different cries reassuring me the whole time and letting me know that I could go in at anytime. After 5 minutes we went in and Carmel showed me a special settling technique which Charlotte instantly responded to. It took a few goes to settle her but after 30 minutes, Charlotte slept for 90 minutes. That was less settling time and twice the sleep we had been getting out of her. The next nap’s settling effort was shorter and Charlotte slept for two hours. While Charlotte slept, Carmel answered all my questions and we reworked the routine I planned to use for Charlotte moving forward. Carmel left with a reminder that I could call her at anytime about anything. She also reminded me that the visit had been incredibly successful but that it wasn’t an instant fix, that while we would see some quick improvements, it would probably take three weeks for the change to be embedded.

The next nap of the day, Carmel had left and I was on my own but I managed to settle Charlotte using Carmel’s technique and get her to sleep for an hour and a half. That night there were only a few wake ups, a huge improvement from the 8 or so we were previously having. And from then on, while it wasn’t all easy and Charlotte was by no means the perfect baby, there was such a dramatic change that I couldn’t believe it and it just kept improving. I certainly called Carmel a few times when things didn’t go to plan and each time she was very helpful and supportive. By the three week point, there were no more calls to Carmel and was pretty much all blissful days and perfect nights. Charlotte self settles for each nap with no crying and sleeps 13 hours undisturbed at night. I couldn’t have asked for a better result and to be honest, didn’t expect it to be so good.

Carmel is the best help I could offer anyone having sleep issues with their baby.

CHARLOTTE + CIARAH

Carmel, I want to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for your help and support for my 2nd little princess Ciarah. You’re absolutely incredible.

You helped me so much with my 1st Princess Charlotte and during that time I learnt from you the most valuable skills, so when it came to our 2nd princess Ciarah (2yrs later) all I needed was one phone consultation. Thanks to your on going support, Ciarah is now sleeping through the night. She goes to sleep by herself, self settles and no longer feeds through the night.

Just after 3 weeks of our new routine, Ciarah got sick with a nasty virus. We had a couple of bad night’s but as soon as she was better I was able to implement what you taught me. With your support again, we were back on track within a few days.

You managed to instil normality back into my life again! The girls are thriving on their new routine as am I. You truly are the baby whisper and my hero! Thank you for being the person you are.

CRUZ

I can’t even begin to thank you enough  Carmel Morabito for the constant help and guidance you provided me with my newborn Cruz. You were an angel to me at a time when I really needed support as no one can be prepared for the challenges that come with being a first time parent.

From the first week he was born you helped me get him into a routine and taught me invaluable strategies and knowledge on how to settle him. He is an absolute joy to have in our lives and it’s so much more enjoyable as he has been in a great sleep routine from such a young age. I credit you for this and appreciate all the phone calls and visits that you so willingly attended to. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me and I cannot recommend your services enough to anyone with a newborn or even just getting their children into a routine.

You really are the “Baby Whisperer!”
Ani, Joseph and Cruz

DESIREE

Carmel’s tips and advice were terrific. Our 15 month daughter had not slept for consecutive weeks and we were exhausted. Once we put into practice Carmel’s tailored strategies to help re-settle our daughter, it was only a matter of days when she started sleeping again. If she wakes in the middle of the night, we have strategies ready to go! Carmel is always on the other end of phone supporting me with tips and advice. Thank you so much Carmel, you’re a God-send!

ETHAN

Our second baby Ethan started giving us a really rough time from 4months old. We tried everything and I mean everything. We had a sleep consultant out, went to sleep school for 5days, bought every thing that claimed would get the most unsettled baby to sleep- nothing worked, everything we knew for our daughter wouldn’t work for him either, we were at breaking point. For 2.5 months we had a very unhappy over tired screaming baby, I was lucky if he would sleep an hr all day and every night he would take a minimum of 3- 4 hours of screaming and crying to get to sleep and would wake up 4 times during the night.
I took him to the doctors, I thought something had to be wrong with him, they did a blood test and thankfully he was perfectly healthy but I still didn’t know what to do. I spent most of the days crying, crying because I didn’t know what to do, crying because I was so tired, crying cause I didn’t know how I could face a 3yr old in the morning and deal with him again screaming & crying
It all caused a lot of tension and frustration between my husband and I because we were both exhausted .
I was also missing spending time with our daughter because I was always trying to get Ethan to sleep or to stop screaming. My friend then suggested I call Carmel and it was the best thing I could of done for our family. My husband had doubt that anyone would be able to help us and boy was he wrong!!
Carmel could see how desperate we were and needed her help fast.
She came on Monday and spent 3 hours with us, showing us what to do & how to do it and just like that, her magic worked. Carmel took her time to understand Ethan and could see what was happening and by the afternoon nap Ethan slept for 1hr 20min… wow!!!
Each day just got better and better, by day 2 he already got the swing of things and was sleeping 3 times during the day and only woke up once during the night.
By day 5 he was going down like clock work and our happy house was back. Today is day 7 and he doesn’t even need me to help settle him or re settle him, his asleep within 5min of being in his cot.He is still waking once during the night for a feed but that’s fine right now ( better then 4 times). I didn’t expect such amazing results so fast! The routine we have is great and has made our days less stressful because we know what’s happening & when. Ethan is a much more happier settled boy now too which is so nice for us to see.
Carmel is truly amazing not just for the magic she works but she is so easy to talk to, she is understanding and so very kind. When she says she is there for you, she really was and still is available for follow up support & advice and you can really feel she cares.
I can’t thank you enough Carmel for everything you have done for me, Ethan and the whole family. Knowing that your support is there for us, is so reassuring.
You have brought back the sunshine into our lives.
Corrina and family.

HAIDER

Little Haider has always been an active baby but not so much a good sleeper. We were struggling with him waking up every hour in the night and catnapping during the day. It got to a point where I couldn’t handle it anymore and I decided to call Carmel.

Her soothing techniques were great and her continued support was phenomenal. In no time our baby went from sleeping little to sleeping a lot more. The best part was that he would wake up happy and smiling. Carmel is a person with a very good heart and she genuinely cares about babies and their families.

Sleep training him has been the best decision I have made. I can’t thank you enough Carmel.

HENRY

Henry is our first baby, I don’t think anything or anyone could prepare you for the challenge a new baby brings. It was challenging in every way imaginable. Henry slept ok during the day for a little while but after only a couple of weeks he stopped sleeping in the day. He would go down without too much fuss first thing in the morning but wake after only 40 mins, sometimes 20 mins of sleep and be impossible to settle again.

From then on the days just got worse, we were lucky to get any sleep out of him and the sleep he did have was in our arms. We were exhausted from holding him all day and struggling to enjoy new parenthood. Henry then became so overtired that he was also struggling to sleep at night, it was very tough. After 3 months we started searching for better strategies to the ones we had already tried (the hours we spent beside his cot patting him..!) and that is when we came across Carmel.

From the moment I spoke to Carmel I felt better, she was very supportive and took the time to understand our situation and Henry. Carmel stayed for two feed, play, sleep cycles and the difference was incredible. Although we weren’t able to settle Henry after he woke in his first sleep the second was a different story, not only were we able to resettle him we had to wake him to feed him! In the week following Carmel’s visit Henry has consistently had a couple of two hour (sometimes more) naps and a one hour nap each day, he is also going to bed at 7:30 at night, having roll over at 10.30 and most nights sleeping until 7am. The best thing about Carmel’s visit (other than Henry sleeping of course) was the confidence she gave us to know what to do when Henry was upset, confidence was the key. We are now loving being parents and Henry is so much happier, instead of tears we get smiles!

We could not recommend Carmel more highly, every new parent needs a Carmel in their life!

Many thanks a million times over,
Catherine and Don Feast

ISOBEL

My now 13 week old daughter and I were on the Project.

It was a shame that they only showed a little piece of what went on when I had Calm Babies help with my daughter’s sleep habits. Carmel taught me how to read my baby’s sleep cues. I now have a very happy baby that goes to sleep when I place her in her cot, and I have the confidence to re-settle her if she wakes up not having enough sleep.

I used to be a stressed out mother whose only way to get her baby to sleep was to rock her. I would then place her in her cot and she would wake up, or wake up later and not know where she was (as she had not fallen asleep there).

I have watched plenty of educational DVD’s on sleeping and settling a baby and have read every book and internet page.

But to have Carmel by my side, to show me how to put it all together and to tailor a routine that worked for me and my baby was priceless.

JACK + MAX

Upon the arrival of our first little boy Jack, both Natalie and I were over the moon.  We were blessed with a beautiful healthy child who ate heaps and was of excellent weight, there was little stress in the hospital.   Once we arrived home all was great, Jack settled into his own bedroom quite well and we played things by ear and were coping okay.  He wasn’t a good day sleeper ever, only doing 40mins during the day, but started out sleeping well during the night with the comfort of a late night feed.

It was by the 3rd month that he was becoming difficult to settle in the evenings, as parents with lots of love to give, we did what we thought was best and made sure Jack was getting enough affection and on occasion rocking him in our arms to calm him down.   Soon Jack was being rocked in our arms regularly and his cries at night were increasing, to a point that we would be up almost every hour.  Even taking turns during the night, the constant broken sleeps were making Natalie and I quite easily agitated and after a few weeks like this, it was torture.

It was at this point we decided we needed some help, and Carmel was a Godsend.  Carmel showed us how to settle Jack, how to read his tired signs and settle him.  We were amazed at how these settling techniques calmed Jack down, and she also gave us tips on how to read what Jack needed.  Carmel also made it clear how important a solid routine was and we quickly saw the benefits in Jack’s mood, and a smiley happy child somehow makes the day so much easier.

The techniques and tips that Carmel taught us were promptly applied with our second little boy Max, and he has been a very happy child benefiting from the security that routine brings, and we all sleep well over night.  We have Carmel to thank for improving our quality of family life, and for helping Natalie and I become better parents.

JACK  R

Dear Carmel,

I just wanted to write you this email to express our gratitude on how you have changed our lives for the better. When I first contacted you I was absolutely desperate for some help as Jack was not sleeping and the only way he would sleep was in bed with Scott or I. I knew this had to change as Jack needed help and so did Scott and I.

In the beginning I just thought this is how babies were, no one told me any different and everyone told me “you will feel better when you get some sleep”. Easier said than done with a brand new baby that was demand feeding every couple of hours. I was headed to a place that was quite scary and I knew that I had to get help.

I researched online and I found your website and was relieved to read that other parents had gone through the same thing as Scott and I were. It made me feel that I wasn’t the only one who was having trouble with being a new Mum. I sent you an email and you responded wiith a phone call the next day and to my relief you came to us earlier than we had arranged. You spent the morning and into the afternoon teaching Scott and I to help Jack self settle and what his different cries meant. You gave me the confidence to know when Jack was really distressed and when he wasn’t and to not run into his room every time I heard him cry.

It took two to three days to see a change in Jack. I was amazed to see such a change in a very short time. You honestly saved my life Carmel, I mean that from the bottom of my heart and if it wasn’t for you, I don’t know where I would be now. You were so supportive, calm and reassuring and your phone support was an extra bonus to get me through when I wasn’t sure if I was doing the right thing.

Jack is now 3 1/2 months and now has a well established routine, he self settles and goes down for his day sleeps without fuss. He sleeps through the night now and is such a happy little boy. You are an angel Carmel and I will always be grateful for what you have done for our family.

Warmest regards,

Melissa, Scott and Jack Ryan

JOHN

I am a single mum working about 30 hours a week & have been co-sleeping with my son John since he grew out of the bassinet. I just needed my sleep however I could get it. When John turned 7 months old, it just was not working for me anymore – John had to go into his own bed. Plus it began to get dangerous to have him on my bed. I began using controlled crying, but it was too stressful for John who started scratching himself raw, so tried a more gradual approach. That didn’t work either. The longer I tried it, the longer it took to get him to sleep successfully. In the end, he would always end up in bed with me. It began affecting my work & I was getting frustrated with John so decided to look into getting help.

I found Carmel’s website & decided to submit an enquiry. Carmel rang back the very next day & explained her method & that, with us being in Queensland, she would be here for us by phone whenever we needed her. Carmel is extremely easy to talk to & very understanding & her method is very gentle & is varied to suit each child so as not to cause any unnecessary stress. She answered questions that all the reading in the world cannot answer & provided the structure I needed to get John to sleep happily in his own cot.

A little over 2 weeks out, the change in John’s sleeping patterns & his mood in general are astounding! I have a very happy boy ?

In short, Carmel is amazing!! I highly recommend Carmel’s services for any parent struggling with child sleep problems.

KABIR

Thank you so much Carmel for your assistance in sleep training our little bubba. From not sleeping for more than 2 hours at night, he now sleeps throughout the night plus naps for about 2 hours during the day. The transition has been hard but you stood like a rock with me, comforting me at each step and making the process a lot easier.

I highly recommend your services to everyone struggling with their baby’s sleep routine…don’t struggle just give Carmel a call. Thank you.

– Kanika

LUCAS + DARCY

Carmel from Calm Babies is amazing!!! She helped us with both our boys. Lucas went from taking up to 2 hours to be cuddled to sleep to sleeping on his own and Darcy has gone from cat napping in my arms to having 2 hour sleeps in his cot. I have learnt soooo much from Carmel from help with breastfeeding to sleep settling strategies for both babies and toddlers. With Carmel, no question is silly. Even though all our communication is via phone I feel like I know Carmel so well and she knows how to support me in helping my boys!

We cant thank you enough Carmel for your continued support

Thank you Sarah, Steven, Lucas and Darcy.

MADELEINE

I called Carmel when my daughter, Madeleine, was 3.5 months old. Madeleine is my second child.

Madeleine had been unsettled since birth and at around 6 weeks medicated for reflux. During this period Madeleine would only sleep while attached to someone, and she usually preferred me. If we ever got her into the bassinette/cot she lasted 5 or 10 minutes and would wake up screaming! Madeleine was such a light sleeper and would never transfer. As a result all her day sleeps were in a baby carrier and night sleeps she was rocked to sleep and held in arms until I went to bed and she slept only while we had contact. This meant I was unable to leave bed without waking her!

I went to a day stay program to get assistance with Madeleine’s sleep. This was not very helpful as I needed more than 1 day’s help. Someone suggested that I try an ‘in’ home” service. This was so beneficial as Carmel was able to make it fit within our home environment. I found Carmel via a Google search and emailed her. I decided I needed someone who could come for more than just a few hours. I was lucky she was able to see me the following week.

I was very anxious about Carmel coming as I knew that I was going to have to make some serious changes but knew what I was doing had to change as I was at breaking point.

Carmel was so caring and compassionate. She listened and most importantly respected my opinions. I come from a very anti-routine background, feeding on demand and thought that following babies cues not the clock was vital. I was aware that I had employed Carmel’s services as a sleep and settling expert and was open to following her advice.

Carmel stayed at my house for 5 or 6 hours (2 sleep cycles) and so much progress was made. It was hard but with her compassion and genuine caring for my daughter and our family it was manageable. Madeleine’s sleep was changed for the better that day and only took a few days to notice significant change.

The most valuable thing I found was the ability to contact Carmel after the visit for assistance when I was unsure (which was often!). In less than 1 week my daughter went from no independent sleep to putting her self to sleep without crying and sleeping in the cot for all her sleeps. I now have to wake her up regularly!

Carmel was also willing to help and support me make some changes to my son’s bedtime routine as after Carmel’s visit I realised that children can put themselves to sleep and actually it is a life skill we are teaching them.

I cannot thank Carmel enough for all her support and guidance, she has not only helped Madeleine sleep better, she has changed my life.

MASON

Our little bundle of joy was in such a hurry to arrive before Christmas, he was 4 weeks early! We decided to nickname him “baby in a hurry” and he was like this when it came to sleeping. By the time he was 9 weeks old, I was so tired and exhausted from twice overnight feeds as well as Mason cat napping from early morning to midnight every day. This made him a very unhappy baby and me a very tired mum!

I then saw Carmel on the 7pm Project and gave her a call. She came out early in the morning and helped both my husband and I set Mason up on a routine which he never had previously. He wasn’t falling asleep on the bottle anymore and actually slept overnight!!! The first night’s sleep I had since he was born and I was so happy I cried.
Carmel showed us how to resettle Mason without getting him out of his cot as well as help formulate a routine just for him that works. The added bonus of ongoing phone support really helps while he gets older to help out iron any issues that can arise.
I now enjoy being a mother so much more than I did before and my little man is so happy and healthy.

Thanks Carmel!

MATILDA

Matilda was my second baby after a long 7 year break, I was working part time from home and found Matilda was extremely unsettled. Nothing we did seemed to work, she would settle for half an hour and then be screaming again. This would last from around 3pm to 10pm at night.

Carmel taught me so much and all of it was soo helpful. You can never read in a book or hear on a DVD what you learn when your with her, It is her knowledge, natural instinct and caring nature I found so reasuring.

Within days Matilda was settled and happy and I owe it all to the help and tips Carmel gave us. I now recommend everyone I know to her and even call her for tips with Matilda who is now 3.

I recommend all Mums either new, second or third time mums to give her a call, a happy baby is a happy family and Carmel helped us get that back.

MILLA

Being an only child married to an only child, a newborn baby was a totally foreign concept for both of us. Milla has fought sleep from day one & sleep times in my house were definitely a battle of wills. By the time she was 12 weeks old we had settled into a somewhat uncomfortable routine of 45 minute naps throughout the day & waking overnight at 2am, 4am & then generally unsettled from this point on

Faced with the long term prospect of a generally tired & unhappy baby who I thought would only get worse as she got older & became more aware I finally contacted Carmel. I wish I had of done this sooner! As soon as Carmel arrived, she spent time getting to know both, Milla & I to make sure that she could come up with solutions to my problems that would fit with how I wanted to care for my baby (she even let me keep the dummy!).

Throughout the day Carmel coached me on what cries to respond to & what to ignore as I was jumping on her as soon as she opened her mouth & not giving her the chance to learn how to self settle, I was also shown how to use the dummy as a tool & not a prop. She also helped me identify Milla’s tired signs – I never would have thought to link her stiff outstretched legs to tired. Above all else the phone support has been a Godsend because as luck would have it my daughter was on her best behaviour the day of Carmel’s visit so there were some things I just didn’t get to try out.

It is now a few weeks later & Milla is sleeping through the night & having much better day sleeps. Will still have our bad days but at least I know Carmel is only a phone call away.

OSCAR

I never thought my 3 month son Oscar was a ‘bad’ baby, but I knew that there could definitely be some improvements. My main objective was to get both Oscar and I into a better routine, longer sleep during the day, and then longer sleep without me having to feed him in the middle of the night.

When I emailed Carmel, I immediately felt as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders and she called me the next day as she was very confident that she had the answers I was looking for. Carmel stayed for two of Oscar’s sleep times and gave us the tools to be able to resettle him when he awoke after the usual 45 minute sleep pattern that babies have. Overall, she gave my husband and I, the confidence to know how to resettle Oscar ourselves.

There were a couple of times I called Carmel to get some reassurance that we were doing things the right way, and before I knew it Oscar was doing all the things I had only dreamed of! Sleeping for 3 big sleeps during the day, without me having to resettle him AT ALL and then at night he is not needing to be fed until 7.30am and I am now no longer a walking zombie!!

I am thrilled with Oscar’s sleep routine now and I thank Carmel immensely for her help.

I will definitely be recommending her to anyone else that may be needing a gentle helping hand. Carmel was wonderful!!

PAIGE

Thank you so much Carmel for all your help with Paige and myself!

We reached 11 weeks old and I was beside myself with how to help Paige nap during the day and slowly teach her to settle herself. I was lucky to get a 1-2 hour stretch out of her during the day. The rest were catnaps and dealing with a very overtired baby. Paige was sleeping through the night in her cot but to get her to sleep I had to rock her to a fully deep sleep.

Calm Babies was the first website I clicked on and I was immediately drawn to everyone’s appraisal towards Carmel and how she had helped with their tiny loved ones.

Carmel was at our house within days of reaching out. She stayed for two sleep cycles and in that time helped Paige settle by herself, taught me how to help her if she ever woke up from a sleep cycle and establish a routine that suited our family.

It’s only been four days but the change is unbelievable. Paige now has 3 naps of 1.5 hours a day. I know I can swaddle her up and put her in the cot awake and she’ll be asleep within 10 minutes! And if I ever have any questions I know I can ask Carmel whenever I need an answer!

You have been the gentle guidance I was looking for in being the best mum I can be to Paige. You’re my new google. Thank you so much.

SARAH + ETHAN

For me, having twins is a daunting prospect.  How was I going to take care of 2 little (and I mean little!) babies by myself when my husband was at work?  All the literature was telling me to demand feed.  Having a baby perpetually feeding was not something that I wanted to do.  My worst fear was having one baby ready for a feed half an hour after I had finished feeding the other.

In saying all that, due to a couple of well meaning midwifes at the hospital, we came home with twins that were on different feeding and sleeping schedules.  This was not working for us.  Neither my husband, nor I had time to eat, let alone sleep.

We needed help – and fast! You were amazing!  You got us into a great feed/sleep routine that fit in around our lives.  You listened to my wish list and set up a routine that suited me (and the babies).  You also showed me how to have both twins fed and back in bed in an hour (an hour and 15 on a bad day).  I can’t tell you how much you did for our family.  The twins now sleep and eat at the same time and I get enough sleep to power through the day.  I even get to eat dinner with my husband!

You gave us our lives back!  Thank you so much!

SPENCER

We were first time parents and were blessed with  special little Spencer, we knew it would be challenging and difficult at times.

But things changed after his first immunisation and got very sick with a cough and an infection. So all routines and self settling went out the door for over a month. After he was well we were dealing with a overtired child and things were getting from bad to worse. I struggled watching him being tired and I was losing my mind on how to help my little baby.
My husband and I were overtired and could not function properly most  days . I was reading  books and researching on the internet how to help Spencer sleep during the day, but nothing worked.

I was a bit anxious calling Carmel but it was life changing. I called her twice when Spencer was 3.5 months. I knew big changes needed to be made but I was ready for anything I was so exhausted.

I have no words to express on how amazing Carmel  was on the day she spent with us. She was very caring, understanding and very passionate.

The ongoing support over the phone has been fantastic  I really don’t know what I would have done without you Carmel, we are so grateful, your name is still mentioned regularly in our household after 4 months.

Thank you again for all your help and support and it is the BEST thing we have done for our baby

Suzy & Trav

VERONICA

We were at our wits end with our 4 month old baby girls refusal to sleep in her cot. After weeks of stress and tears I found “Calm Babies” on the Internet. Carmel’s professional and friendly manner combined with her personalised program helped us smoothly transition our little darling from her bassinet and swing to her cot. We had confidence and peace of mind and knew that we could ask her for further help if required.
Carmel also helped us drop the exhausting early morning feed which gave us much more needed sleep! Now 7 months old our little darling sleeps through the night (mostly!) and we still use Carmel’s techniques.

Can you cure pain for teething as well Carmel?

Endless thanks

Jenny, John & Veronica

WALTER

My 11 week old’s feeding and sleeping patterns were all over the place and both Walter and I were getting no sleep either during the day or the night. Every nap / sleep time Walter would need to be rocked in our arms and would only fall asleep after many minutes of crying, and if he woke when I put him down in the cot, he cried some more! If he stayed asleep when I put him down, he would still wake up 30 mins later screaming and I couldn’t settle him back to sleep.

I admitted defeat and asked for help – I wish I’d done it sooner! Carmel came out to our house for 6 hours and she was so nice, kind and helpful. She changed a few things in Walter’s cot and showed me how to get him to fall asleep in the cot by himself, and how to settle him back to sleep if he woke up after 30 mins. By just changing a few small things that I was doing, it has made an amazing difference! After just one day with Carmel, I can now put him down in his cot awake, and he will fall asleep by himself. If he wakes up he either puts himself back to sleep after a few little grunts and noises, or I can use the strategies Carmel showed me to settle him.

He’s now having longer naps during the day (I sometimes have to wake him for his feeds!) and only wakes once over the night. (This is a big improvement as he used to wake up at least 5 or 6 times!). I was skeptical about it being a ‘magic cure’, but it really has been amazing! The extra phone support that Carmel has given me has also been extremely helpful and valuable.

Walter is so much happier (his little brain is getting some time to rest!), and he wakes up from each sleep with a big smile on his face!

Thank you Carmel!

WAFA

Over 6 months ago I sat in a dark room on my chair rocking my 4 month old for over an hour to sleep – desperate and hopeless I found Carmel. 6 months later the girl sitting in that room is no longer here. With Carmel’s help, patience, knowledge and guidance, she has given me strength and calmness!

Now my 10.5 month old is able to resettle, fall asleep by herself and sleep longer than 30 minutes at a time, all the while teething and kicking acid reflux’s butt. There’s been no rocking and I’m so proud of myself that I can implement the techniques Carmel’s taught me if we ever have a rough day (which is rarely).

Looking back at that girl in the room, I wish I had contacted Carmel sooner! With that said, may you continue to help people and help their beautiful babies sleep calmly and peacefully and we can do the same to be the best mums we can be!

XAVIER

Xavier is our first baby and we found it very challenging as first time parents. We knew it would be difficult, but never imagined how much we had to adapt and learn. I found it extremely tiring as it was taking me 1 to 1 ½ hours to breastfeed Xavier, this only allowed him a little play time and then it was time to try and get him to sleep. This was another challenge as it would take another 1/2 hour to rock him to sleep in his bassinette. It was really hard for me to get him to sleep during the day and before I knew it I was back feeding him again. I was at the point of giving up on breastfeeding not only because of the time it took me but also I was continuously having problems with mastitis. I basically found it difficult to leave the house because feeds were taking so long and also Xavier was always unsettled.

It was at 12 weeks that I called Carmel at Calm Babies.

Carmel came over and stayed with us for 7 hours, she showed us the techniques to get Xavier to self settle and most importantly she gave us a routine. She also helped me with breastfeeding techniques so that feed times were more effective and efficient.

The first week was extremely hard but it was well worth it, I had Carmel’s full support that whole week and she kept reassuring me that it was going to work and I am so grateful that I listened to her, our lives are completely different now.

I am now still breastfeeding and loving it. It only takes 20-30 mins and I have had no problems with mastitis since Carmel came over. Xavier also gets plenty of play time and Carmel was able to teach me how to recognise when he is ready for sleep. We can now put Xavier to bed in his cot and he will settle himself to sleep. During the day he will sleep 1 to 1 1/2 hours each sleep time and if he does wake up and doesn’t settle himself back to sleep, I have the techniques to resettle him, no more rocking! Sometimes I even need to wake him for his next feed! Xavier and I are also sleeping through the night, no more middle of the night feeds. I am able to take him out and about, I have even joined him up at Gymbaroo which is something I couldn’t have imagined doing before Carmel. So many people that have come to see us have commented on how different our household is and what a calm and happy baby Xavier has become.

I would highly recommend Carmel to anyone that needs that extra bit of help and support.

We are so grateful to Carmel, she has helped us get our lives back and really enjoy being parents to our beautiful baby boy.

ZACH

Carmel, has been a fantastic help for our son Zach.

Zach was waking during the night very unsettled and restless. Carmel explained the process over the phone, of re settling. I also sent her a video of Zach crying so she could determine his cry. After 3 weeks of using carmel’s routine zach is now sleeping 7 – 7 at night and 2 great day sleeps.

I was so happy with the service we received, there was plenty of contact and if I ever had any questions Carmel was only a phone call away.

Thank you so much for your help.

ZOE

Being a first time mum you really don’t know what you don’t know – and this is where Calm Babies do!

Calm babies (Carmel – you are simply the best!) came highly recommended by a close friend of mine who said I was doing it tough. At the time my little angel Zoe was 7 weeks of age feeding 6 times a day, hated her bath, slept little through the day and very unsettled between 4-6pm like clock-work but thankfully slept 3-4 hour stints overnight.

I had read the usual books in preparation and thought what more is there – I have it pretty good – until I met Carmel and found out how much better it could be!

Carmel has a unique gift – she is knowledgeable, professional and has a reassuring and compassionate persona. She listened with intent and gave me simple advice on what suited our family – which to my surprise was different to my friend – not a one-size fits all approach… and it worked for us!!!

It is without any hesitation that I recommend Calm Babies – just contact Carmel… it was definitely the best phone call I have ever made! And I can’t thank my friend enough for her recommendation.

Forever grateful
